This course provides learners with the necessary knowledge and resources to develop a clinical knowledge base when caring for patients of sexual violence. The goal of this course is to provide affordable, comprehensive basic SAFE Adult/Adolescent education using pedagogical science to thread nursing philosophies, theory, concepts, practice frameworks, scope and standards of practice through forensic nursing educational opportunities. The course contains 14 modules which follow the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) Educational Guidelines for didactic course work in Adolescent/Adult SANE and features subject matter experts from around the United States. In accordance with IAFN guidelines, participants have 12 weeks to complete the program.
This course satisfies the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) requirement for 40 hours of didactic coursework as one component of completing the SANE-A certification. The course provides a solid foundation for medical professionals to begin practicing as a SAFE or SANE, under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. Learners will be able to gather and utilize available research and best practices surrounding the medical forensic examination for patients affected by sexual assault.
